Do I have to enrol for the whole term?
Classes are designed to progress over the term and to attend casually defeats the purpose of the integration of deep abdominal awareness which the classes try to develop into a habit that extends beyond the class into your other activities.
Do I need to have a physio assessment prior to the classes?
If you have underlying problems that affect movement then it is helpful to have an assessment so modifications if needed can be made to your exercises rather than perform certain exercises and have symptoms increase because that movement pattern was contra- indicated for your condition.
Yes, the classes are covered under physiotherapy ancillary benefits from private health insurance. Most insurances offer a group therapy rebate, some combine all physiotherapy services under one section.
Are there any restrictions on who can do the classes?
Floor classes can be modified for most people. The Clinical Pilates floor class is suited to most people. The bolster class is only recommended to people as a progression. Floor classes mean that you must be able to get down and up from the floor as some exercises will be done in lying. If you have difficulty doing this, the equipment class would be suitable instead.
Should I do a floor or equipment class?
Floor classes require little or no equipment so you can practise them at home. The equipment classes challenge you at a whole different level and you come away feeling muscles exercised in different ways to normal gym programs. 3-5 small group sessions are required prior to commencing the equipment class to understand the exercises and the equipment. The variety of the equipment is exciting but the practicality of merging floor class principles to other forms of activity you do is useful.
What are the differences in the Clinical Pilates Equipment and Small group Clinical Pilates Equipment classes?
Clinical Pilates Equipment is a circuit based class where you rotate through five to six stations during the class on various pilates equipment (reformer, trapeze table, vibration machine). Classes are eligible for the group therapy rebate from private health insurance.
The small group has no more than 3 people in it at time and can be individually modified, tailored and progressed at your own pace. You may prefer more time on the reformer than the trapeze table and the class has this flexibility. These classes are not run on term sessions and can be changed to suit a small group if required. If you are unable to attend one session you do not have to fit in a make up class. These classes have a higher ancillary health fund rebate available.
